overview:

This project involved converting a CD-based application called ChemSkill Builder (CSB) to a database-driven PHP, mySQL & Flash portal. It was originally developed in Visual Basic 3.

The final product is a portal with dynamic multimedia content. Questions and variables are presented randomly, hence no two students will ever get the same question. Answers are then checked immediately followed by the presentation of the solution if a wrong answer is provided. At the end of a section, students' scores are kept in a mySQL database. This provides a tool for teachers to track the progress of the students and give appropriate credit. Students may use this tool to track their progress in understanding and solving Chemistry problems.

responsibilities:

• Designed an interface to present to the client for navigation & layout ideas for the section modules.
• Optimized complex VB code to Flash Actionscript for almost half the units and sections. Translated VB code is more efficient but retained original functionality. Code was used for generating random questions as well as grading the answers.
• Students' scores from each completed section were sent from Flash through PHP to a mySQL database.
